The cutting back of tree branches to reduce the size of the canopy is called Crown reduction and should generally be avoided.
Crown Reductions reduce the overall canopy of the tree by cutting back the branches to ideally no less than 25% of the diameter of the parent branch. Any more than around 25-30% crown reduction can have an adverse effect on the tree.
Tree thinning is the thinning out of branches within the crown of a tree to allow more light and airflow to the tree. It is also helpful in situations where branches are conflicting with each other.
Crown thinning is often required in tree canopies which have been badly pruned in the past. Around 15% density reduction is a good crown thinning standard to go by.
Tree crown lifting is the removal of lower tree branches to prevent obstructions along public areas such as highways and footpaths.
This is often used to gain clearance above structures, because they are blocking views or reducing light.
Hard pruning involving the removal of all or nearly all of a trees branches. Not recommended for most mature species. The main exception being willows. Pollarding is often used to keep large growing tree’s to a manageable size and if done correctly will result in a unique, long lived and healthy tree.
Crown Cleaning or Dead Wooding is the removal of any dead, diseased or dying branches from the tree’s canopy or the removal of unwanted growths from previous pruning cuts.
Site clearance is normally carried out to make way for new developments and can involve tree felling and tree stump grinding to provide a good grounding for building on. It can also include large areas of long grass and weeds that needs commercial equipment.
Our professional tree surgery and ground clearance teams have years of experience in both commercial and domestic site clearance. Canopy Tree Services are fully equipped with commercial site clearance equipment to get the job done.
